FML Fellowships

The Friends of the Music Library offers fellowships for the purpose of encouraging research and study utilizing the extensive resources and on-site collections of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Music Department.  

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Three fellowships of up to $3,000 may be awarded per year.

Fellowship Eligibility

The Fellowship is open to anyone conducting research on a music-related topic.  Students, educators, and musicians are especially encouraged to apply. The research topic should be suitable for the collection(s) available at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Main Branch (4400 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh, PA). 

To apply for a fellowship submit a 500-word essay that includes the following:

  • A short description of your research topic.

  • A list of resources/collections you will be using at the Music Department of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.

  • A brief statement indicating how you will be using the funding. (Funds may be used for, but are not limited to travel, living expenses, and other expenses related to conducting research). 

  • How the research may benefit others (academically, for the public, etc.).

 

Include a resume or CV, highlighting your music background.

A written report on the research the funds supported will be required six months after receipt of award.  Recipients are also encouraged to present their findings via lecture or suitable presentation to the Friends of the Music Library, staff, and general public at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
