About Us

The Friends of the Music Library is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to providing additional funding to support the Music Collection (Music, Film & Audio Department) at The Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s Main Branch in Oakland. It was originally formed in 1949 as a merging of two informal philanthropic organizations that focused on organizing and developing the music collection. The original purpose of the Friends was to support the continuing development of the resources and to encourage increased use of the library's collection by the public.

You can read more about the history of the Friends hereSince that time the Friends have helped to make the collection internationally known for the quality and quantity of its materials.
